NASM Certified Sports Nutrition Coach (CSNC)

NASM’s CSNC course provides a comprehensive performance nutrition program, providing applied nutrition principles, specific to aiding and supporting healthy performance for the variety of athletes and clients of fitness professionals. CSNC includes analysis of nutritional needs, performance nutrition science, and coaching strategies for athletes from high school to elite performers.  

Learning Objectives

  • Evaluate anatomy and physiology concepts through the lens of sports nutrition.
  • Recognize the coach’s scope of practice in the context of sports nutrition.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of various disorders or conditions which require medical referral.
  • Identify energy and macronutrient needs for various types of athletes and events.
  • Perform a nutritional needs analysis based on the athlete’s sport and energy demands.
  • Apply concepts of nutrient timing and nutritional periodization in programming.
  • Implement hydration strategies for optimal performance.
  • Implement strategies to support optimal health and recovery from sports competition and training.
  • Develop personalized/individualized nutritional recommendations (dietary advice/supplements).
  • Implement coaching and behavior change strategies to maximize performance and adherence to a nutritional intervention.
